Walking in Memphis

Walking in Memphis was inspired by the 1980’s furniture design movement, Memphis. As my final collection in my BFA I focused heavily on representing this design style into a collection of footwear and accessories. This design movement stuck with me throughout my research because of the designers intention to create items that went against the grain and pushed the boundaries of what design could do. I was influenced to create a collection that stood out from the crowd and allowed me some freedom to express myself through these products.

Process.

The Walking in Memphis project pushed me to produce a collection that was full of life and color. It forced me to explore the juxtaposition between form and function and find ways to play with this concept. The Memphis movement continues to be a huge inspiration in my everyday design life.
